Start packing your bags because your dreams just become reality with a real puppy island! On the beautiful island of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos, a dog rescue charity called Potcake Place lets tourists bring puppies to nearby beaches and help them learn to socialize before they go to their forever homes. The organization founder said she moved to the islands in 1997 and noticed a lot of puppies roaming the streets. That’s when she decided to open the shelter. All the puppies are up for adoption, but if you don’t have room for your furry friend, you can still visit and play with them. If you needed another excuse to visit the Turks and Caicos, we’d say this is all the convincing you need.
this is a potcake. a potcake is a feral dog from the Caribbean, mainly the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. like most mutts, they are remarkable animals: healthy, intelligent and loyal. in appearance and in personality they vary, but they share the common quality of completely adapting to their human's lifestyle - they learn your language. I'm not saying "choose this type of dog over other types of dogs"; there are plenty of amazing dogs in shelters right now that are equally deserving of a home. BUT if you travel to the Caribbean, get in touch with the local rescues and carve out some time to spend with these animals (there are cats too!), maybe even take one back with you (it's really easy) - whether to foster or to adopt - you won't regret it, I promise. and if for some reason you do, I will personally fly to wherever you are and take them off your hands, though anyone with a #potcake will tell you the only way you're getting theirs is from their cold dead hands. thanks for reading ❤️🐾 #potcakesofinstagram
