There is a job opening at NASA as a Planetary Protection Officer, and nine-year-old Jack Davis believes he is the man for the job. “I may be nine but I think I would be fit for the job. One of the reasons is my sister says I am an alien. Also I have seen almost all of the space movies and alien movies I can see.” The youngster added that he is great at video games and hopes to expand his knowledge of space by watching “Men in Black.” Plus, he says, he is young so he can learn to think like an alien. NASA’s Planetary Science Director Jim Green responded, saying the job is really cool, and explained that it is all about protecting earth from tiny microbes when samples are brought back from the moon, asteroids and Mars. He encouraged Davis to study hard and added that he hoped to see him at NASA one day. While the Planetary Protection Officer’s job will probably go to a more experienced candidate, Green said he loves the opportunity to encourage interest in the space program to young people like Davis, hoping they will become part of the next generation of explorers.
