I get it. Basically nothing is off limits to new food creations. Companies are trying bold new flavors and combinations to not only attract new customers in the store, but attract attention on social media.
Starbucks has recently remodeled a couple of their Chicago locations, and with the new look and feel comes new menu items. One of those items is billed as “a classic California chicken burrito with a twist.” The Chicken Maki roll is stuffed with “slow cooked, shredded chicken, fire roasted tomatillo salsa, lime crema, fresh cucumber and pickled cabbage with onions, avocado and crispy onion.” The burrito is “rolled in sushi rice and wrapped with nori” instead of a tortilla. Pretty small for a burrito, but typical size for a standard sushi roll.
While the ingredients don’t look bad, it just seems off having shredded chicken in a sushi roll, ya know? Sushi, to me, means that raw fish is always the “meat” in the center of the roll. And burritos? I prefer a tortilla please. -GM
