This year’s harvest moon will rule the skies tonight. The full moon closest to the autumn equinox get it’s name from farmers who used its light to spend extra time bringing in the crops. The best time to catch the “orange moon” in all its glory is just after sunset, when it appears to be largest. Its color comes from the sun’s light bouncing off the moon through the angle of the Earth’s atmosphere. The harvest moon is really one of the most beautiful sites, but unfortunately we’ll have cloudy skies tonight, so don’t expect to see it here! Read more about the harvest moon here.
