Cole Swindell wrote his song “You Should Be Here” about missing his late father, but the song has taken on a new meaning after the deadly shooting in Las Vegas on October 1. Last year, Brennan Stewart – one of the 58 concertgoers who were killed in the attack – posted a heartfelt cover of Swindell’s tune on Facebook, and that video has now surpassed 200,000 views. After seeing Stewart’s touching cover for himself, Cole took to Instagram to share his thoughts and express his grief. In the message, Cole said that he hopes to connect with Brennan’s family when he’s in Las Vegas this December.
This is Brennan Stewart.. HUGE country music fan. He was 1 of the 58 that never made it home Sunday night. I’ve seen his cover of “You Should Be Here” and it’s absolutely heartbreaking. I will be thinking of him and the others who lost their lives every time I sing that song.. hope to connect with his family when I’m in Vegas in December. 🙏🏻
