Well, it happened. We have our first confirmed story of someone falling through the ice this winter fishing season. Everyone is fine and the only thing lost was a UTV. That got us thinking, how do you know when the ice is safe and when it isn’t? We know, every year we get these stories. However, every year we hear of someone falling through…so lets review!
A quick google search lecad me to WikiHow and an article titled “How To Know When The Ice Is Safe.” My biggest take away was this helpful little rhyme…Thick and blue, tried and true; Thin and crispy, way too risky. Essentially color will tell you just about everything you need to know about the ice and its saety levels. It’s still important to be cognizant of the thickness of the ice. Ice can still be clear and blue but not thick enough to support the weight of a human being. Bsically…BE CAREFUL!
If you want to know more, head on over to WikiHow and take in the knowledge. Now, if you use these tips to land that monster walleye I will expect my dinner invitation via email, text message, carrier pigeon….it’s really up to you.
