A Piece Of George Washington Has Been Found In A Book

A lock of hair belonging to George Washington has been found inside a book titled “Gaines Universal Register or American and British Kalendar for the Year 1793.” The almanac is believed to have belonged to Philip J. Schuyler, the son of Gen. Philip Schuyler. The six strands of hair in the book were held together by a single delicate thread. Apparently the Washington and Schuyler families were close, and it wasn’t uncommon during that time period to give away a strand of hair as a token. The interesting thing is that, contrary to popular belief, Washington apparently did not wear a wig because he was bald!
