We heard it was happening, but now it’s official: Toys ‘R Us is going under. They will be shuttering their over 200 stores, including the one in Onalaska. The local closing will sideline about 30 employees, part of 31,000 nationwide. The final day for sales will be May 14.
It’s a sad trend, isn’t it? Toys ‘R Us had a pretty disappointing holiday sales season, tons of debt, and without a doubt has been hurt by online retailers. Clearly this isn’t the end of brick and mortar stores shutting their doors. Who’s next, do you suppose? ~John
