If you’ve ever wanted to own one of the world’s largest collections of golf balls, start teeing up. A Rochester, MN man who’s collected nearly 70,000 unique golf balls, is ready to part with them. 90-year-old RJ Smith says he collected his first ball as an 11-year-old caddy and has been doing it ever since. Today, Smith’s collection fills 460 milk crates, stacked floor to ceiling, in a garage in his backyard. The crates contain some 70,000 balls, and no two are alike. His oldest ball is from 1917. Three months ago, Smith was diagnosed with cancer, so he’s concluded it’s time the sell his collection and donate the proceeds to charity.
