I was watching the Olympics over the weekend, and although I don’t follow figure skating, I appreciate the athleticism and training that go into the sport. But as I was watching it yesterday, it occurred to me that the majority of the skaters were using “American” music. From what I’ve heard, this is the first time skaters were allowed to use songs that had lyrics in them, meaning singers. One guy used a bunch of Elvis tunes, even. Here’s my question: Why are they using our music when the world supposedly hates us so much? You know what I mean. We hear, “The U.S. is awful because of it’s immigration policies.” “The U.S. is awful because they have so many freedoms.” And on and on. So if we’re so bad, why are you using our music? Use your own music! “Oh, we hate America, but we’re happy to use your music!” It bugs me.
