Caterpillars Are Apparently A Road Hazard In Maine

Here in Wisconsin, we have Deer Crossings, but apparently in Maine they have Caterpillar Crossings, and there’s so many that the Maine DOT has had to post a warning sign! An alert posted by the Maine DOT last Tuesday cautioned drivers about a slippery road due to the caterpillars. The alert remained online until it was changed Thursday to “The caterpillar incident has been cleared.” Drivers say the road is stained yellow from cars squashing them, the air stinks, and apparently the road is slippery enough to warrant the DOT warning when it rains. The Maine Department of Agriculture said the caterpillars are wandering as oak trees in the area are defoliated.
