On the heels of a freight train striking a car in La Crosse last week, officials in Winona are dealing with a derailment last night (Sunday). As reported on news8000.com, no injuries are reported and there’s no risk to public safety. According to Winona County Emergency Management, six empty grain cars at the end of the train derailed. The partial derailment was reported at about 10:45 p.m. near Lock and Dam 7. News 8’s crew at the scene says most of the train is still on the tracks. According to the Dakota Fire Captain, initial reports suggest rainy weather played a role in the derailment.
